The MTC reported that this service was ordered to continue operating to guarantee the food supply, medical service and safety of the residents in the area.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) reported that the local service of the southeast train, which includes the Ollantaytambo-Machu Picchu Pueblo route (ex Aguas Calientes), Cusco region, continues to serve 50% of its total fleet to ensure the correct supply of food, medical service and security for residents in the area.

This transportation service to Machu Picchu Pueblo facilitates the transfer of medical and security personnel (National Police and Armed Forces) deployed in Cusco due to the health emergency decreed by the Executive to control the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19). This also guarantees the collection and transfer of solid waste to avoid the generation of infectious foci.

The service is enabled from the Ollantaytambo station to the Machu Picchu town district, formerly Aguas Calientes, and also benefits local citizens who need to move within the restrictions provided by the Executive, as reported by the Transandino S.A. Railway Concessionaire. (Fetransa).

Recall that Supreme Decree No. 046-2020-PCM established that the personnel dedicated to the provision of services for the supply of food, health, medicine, water, sanitation, electric power, gas, fuel, telecommunications, cleaning and collection of Solid waste, funeral services, and freight and merchandise transportation and related activities may circulate.
