Cusco and Tacna were the favorite destinations of foreign tourists in 2018

Cusco and Tacna were the favorite destinations of foreign tourists who arrived in Peru to spend their vacations during the past year, reveals the 2018 Foreign Tourist Profile study prepared by the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Export and Tourism (Promperú).
To these regions are added Lima, Puno and Arequipa, the study adds that a total of 2 million 728,733 foreign tourists visited Peru during 2018 for vacations.

Lima is the region that tops the list with the highest number of foreign visitors (68%), then Cusco, located by Machu Picchu (51%); and Tacna (33%), which is explained by the presence of tourists entering through the southern border; Puno (25%) and Arequipa (22%).
The total figure represents a growth of 8 percent compared to 2017 when there were a total of 2 million 524,947 foreign vacationers who arrived in our country.

According to the Foreign Tourist Profile, other reasons that motivated the arrival of foreign visitors were business (15%) and visiting friends or family (12%).
Vacationers spending

Another relevant fact revealed by the 2018 Foreign Tourist Profile is that the average spending of foreign vacationers rose from $ 988 to $ 1,013 between 2017 and 2018.

This increase was driven by the so-called Centennials Generation (from 15 to 24 years old), which went from $ 652 to $ 955, and the so-called Millennials (from 25 to 40 years old), with an average that rose from 819 to 971 dollars in the same period.

The 2018 Foreign Tourist Profile study also reveals that vacationers stayed in our country for approximately 10 nights, time they used to visit around three departments of Peru. Mincetur recalled that in 2017 this type of tourist stayed one night less.
