Trip introduction

The sun (Inti) was one of the most important Gods for Inca society. Incas worshiped the sun every year on winter solstice with a series of rituals and grandstanding parties which involved all people coming from the 4 regions of the empire. Today there is still a party representing the sun every June 24 in Sacsayhuaman.

Itinerary

JUNE 24 - INTI RAYMI

We begin our trip to the temple of the sun (Qoricancha) at 8 in the morning. Here will observe the opening ceremonies by the Inca in honor of the sun. We will proceed to the forecourt of the temple of the sun and observe dances from different regions where each dancer is wearing their traditional costumes. We then will move to the main square of Cusco to see the meeting of the two worlds where the Inca talks with the mayor of the city and continues the ceremony with the offerings of chicha. Finally we will go to Sacsayhuaman to the main festival for the sacrifice of the flame and final message of the Inca. When festivities are completed we will return to the city.
