Sun Festival Cusco Full Day

Trip introduction

The feast of the sun is a rather ancient ceremony that was celebrated since Inca times in honor of the Sun God, originally it was held on the winter solstice every June 21 because it was the moment when the earth turned away from the sun in such a sense, the Andean community considered that their Father God, the Sun, was abandoning their people and, therefore, it was necessary to hold a feast asking for the return of their God. Today the party takes place every June 24th, which coincides with the date on which the city was refounded by the Spanish conquest in 1533. The ceremony has 3 stages, it usually starts at the Temple of the Sun, then at the city's Plaza de Armas and finally the most important part of the festival is held in Sacsayhuamán.
